Scholarship and Pre-VCE (Primary, Secondary, NAPLAN & Selective High School)
In our class, we focus on teaching the students advanced narrative and persuasive writing skills.
In narrative writing, we teach students how to:

Develop compelling stories.

Plan story arcs with an exciting plot twist.

Write their story to engage, entertain, and immerse the reader.
In persuasive writing, we teach students how to:

Learn to persuade, influence, and convince

Plan and strengthen your arguments with evidence.

Write arguments that convince your audience.
For year 6 students, we wlll gradually introduce text analysis as we prepare them for the transition into secondary school.
We also help them develop their vocabulary and improve their spelling.
For scholarship students, we can also cover informative and descriptive writing depending on the type of scholarship exams they are planning to take. Saying this narrative and persuasive writing have historically been the most popular forms provided in writing tests.
VCE English
In English Unit 3, we help our students develop a deeper, more complex analysis in their movie/text responses. We also assist them in crafting their short stories, opinion pieces and/or speeches.
In English Unit 4, similarly to Unit 3, there will be another movie or text to analyse. Additionally, we help students refine their ability to examine and evaluate the strategies used in various persuasive texts.
You will also have access to high-scoring essays written by Raw 50 students, the
high-scoring essays in SACs (ranging from 95/100 to a full score) and 9 to 10/10 essays
in VCE exams.
Our comprehensive study material will enhance and deepen your understanding of the texts and movies you will study. This knowledge will be invaluable for incorporating a rich, complex analysis that dissects through themes, characters, symbolism, societal and historical context, and authorial intent. We equally have an impressive and thorough
set of study material for your creative and speech.
We have everything you need to achieve a Raw score of 40 or higher if you put in the effort. If you dedicate yourself to mastering VCE English using our materials and feedback, you can achieve a Raw 50 or get close to it.
VCE English Language
Our English Language course focuses on helping students master metalanguage, the essential foundation for excelling in the subject. Many students find English Language challenging without a strong command of metalanguage, but our program ensures they build this critical understanding.
We systematically cover all requirements from Unit 3 AOS 1 & 2 and Unit 4 AOS 1 & 2. Students receive thorough preparation for SACs and final exams, gaining confidence in their exam skills.
The program provides practice in Short Answer Questions (SAQs), Analytical Commentaries (ACs), essay writing, weekly lesson notes, and mock examinations. Over the year, students tackle more than 120 essay topics and 50 analytical commentaries to sharpen their writing abilities.
We also support students in compiling a folio of contemporary media examples —
a key component for Section C: Essay.
